Morningstar Golf Course

Designed by Les Furber, 7,018 yards, Par 72, Rating 72.1, Slope 139

Host to the Canadian Tour Qualifying School for six years, and one of the most popular courses on Vancouver Island, Morningstar International Golf Course in Parksville has the welcoming nature of a hidden gem, and the pedigree of a champion.

Utilizing rolling terrain, and water as its main defences Morningstar will start you out in open meadow and then take you quickly into an evergreen forest. Getting off to a good start is key if you want to have a good round at this challenging course. Once in the woods, the fairways tighten-up and accuracy must be taken over raw distance at many of the holes. Be sure to bring a hot short game and a willingness to use a little imagination if your drive does not end-up exactly where you wanted.

Perhaps no hole better signifies the fantastic brand of golf that Morningstar features than its par four #12. At just over four hundred yards from the back tees and 321 from the red tees it offers plenty of yardage to challenge the average golfer. Add to that fact that it is a downhill fairway with a sharp dogleg right and you will begin to see the challenge that the hole offers. Big hitters won’t have the option of cutting the corner as the right side is guarded by tall trees and they must be careful not to hit too far off the tee as there is water waiting at the bottom of the hill. The best strategy is to hit up the right middle of the fairway to your favourite yardage and then hit the highest lofted club you can hit from that yardage to ensure that the ball stops on this firm, sloping green. Any balls that are short of or don’t stick on the green will find themselves in the deep bunker that fronts the entire green and challenges you to be imaginative to save par.

At over 7,000 yards from the tournament tees, with a slope of 139, Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville has all the challenge any rational, advanced golfer could want. The course is far more manageable for the average golfer, and becomes downright friendly from the forward tees.

No matter what your game, Morningstar International Golf Course is a great place to play and a fantastic addition to any Vancouver Island Golf Safari. This summer put your game to the test. Come conquer Morningstar with BC Golf Vacations.
